Colours did not last long in English legal gowns. Before long, plain, drab black and white was de rigeur.

But this image gives a glimpse of the colour that would of adorned the courtrooms

The image shows both the coif (hair piece) worn as well as the colours of the formal legal gown circa John Haugh who was a "Justis of the Law",  appointed by King Henry VII in 1487.

This stained glass is in a church in Long-Melford, Suffolk, England where John haugh and his colleagues William Haward and Richard Pycot join him with this inscription:

"Pray for the good state of William Haward, Chief Justice of England, and for Richard Pycot, and John Haugh, Justis of the Law."
