Adoption of Convenience Definition:

An adoption of a child not for the sake of the child but to the convenience, usually financial, of the adopting parent(s).

In Perera, Justice Dubé of the Federal Court of Canada wrote:

"Similarly to a so-called marriage of convenience (where two total strangers fake an illusory marital relationship so as to admit a temporary spouse to Canada) an adoption of convenience would be a situation where Canadian citizens would pretend to adopt an unknown child so as to bring him to Canada for a financial reward."
