Calendar Year Definition:

A period from January 1 to December 31.

Related Terms: Calendar Month, Calendar Day, Calendar Week, Calendar Quarter

The full twelve month period beginning on January 1 and ending on December 31.

Many jurisdictions, out of an abundance of caution, have defined the term calendar months. For example, the Canadian Interpretation Act at 37(1)(a):

"Calendar year means a period of twelve consecutive months commencing on January 1."

The New Brunswick Interpretation Act:

"Calendar year means the period from the first day of January to the last day of December then following, inclusive."
