Co-debtor Stay Definition:

A stay upon the debt enforcement or collection upon a co-debtor.

Also spelled codebtor.

In In Re Westberry, Justice Cole of the US Court of Appeals wrote:

"The co-debtor stay provides that a creditor may not act to collect all or part of a consumer debt of the debtor from any individual that is liable on such debt with the debtor."

 This statement of law mirrors §1301 of Title 11 of the United States Code ("Bankruptcy").
