Five-Hide Definition:

A unit of measure of land used in Conquest-era (1066) England.

Sometimes spelled five hide and on other occasions, with a hyphen as in "five-hide."

The five-hide was simply five times the given measure of the hide and was used to determine taxation of a land-owner, or the contribution of the land0-owner in the event of a muilitary crisis; i.e. conscription especialy.
