Marshall brought an action against Steward for saying: 'The Devil appears to thee every night in the likeness of a black man riding upon a black horse, and thou conferreth with him. And whatsever thou aske, he gives it to thee, and that is the reason thou hath so much money.'
After some debate, judgment was given to the plaintiff.
