Pier Definition:

A structure extending from shore into navigable water to afford passage to and from vessels.

In Evelyn, Justice of the adopted these words to define pier:

"[A] pier is one type of artificial mooring out to or along navigable waters....

"(A) pier (is) a structure extending from solid land out into the water of a river, lake, harbor, to afford convenient passage for persons and property to and from vessels along the sides of the pier."
