Plat Definition:

A subdivision map prepared for approval by a governmental authority.

Also known in some jurisdictions as a plot.

In Nashville v Bary Construction, Justice William Koch of the Court of Appeals of Tennessee defined the word at footnote #12 of the Court's judgment:

"The word plat is a term of art in the planning profession that generally refers to a subdivision map prepared for approval by a governmental authority.

"It connotes the map depicting the manner in which property has been subdivided."
