Proper Lookout Definition: The legal obligation on the part of a vessel or motor vehicle operator to keep an ongoing watch of its path and other traffic or obstacles. In the law of motor vehicles (traffic law), the court's have imposed a common law duty on all drivers to keep their eyes on the road at all times. Indeed, a driver is negligent if he or she takes his or her eyes off the road. In the event of a collision during such negligence, the driver will be exposed to full or partial liability.
