Born at Madrid, Spain in 1943 to a wealthy family, Julio Iglesias's first love was football (soccer).
He was goaltender for the Real Madrid junior squad but decided to commit himself to law school.
He studied law at Complutense University of Madrid when, in 1963, he survived a serious motor vehicle accident. While he was convalescing, someone brought him a guitar to help him in his recovery and the rest, as the saying goes, is history.
He continued his studies but left them to travel to England where he studied English.
But in 1968, he won the Benidorm Music Festival in Spain and got a recording contract from Columbia, later signing with CBS.
In 1972, at his parent's urging, and in spite of his growing fame, he returned to law school and finished his law degree. 
His sweet, crooner voice and a trademark teethy smile would not of hurt his client's case before any jury or female judge.
Iglesias' language skills are astonishing. In 1983, he was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for selling records in more languages than any other musical artist in history including Spanish, German, English, French, Italian, Portuguese and and Japanese. He has sold over 250-million albums worldwide, ranked 17th all-time as of 2009. His greatest hit is, arguably, To All The Girls I've Loved Before.
In 1988, he won the coveted international Grammy Award for Artist of the Year.
In 1985, the singer's father Julio Iglesias Senior, was kidnapped but found alive two weeks later. Julio Sr. died in December 2005 at the age of 90 but a month later, his father's partner Ronna Kett gave birth to Julio's sister Ruth, some 63 years younger than her brother Julio.
Julio Iglesias still performs and has homes in several countries but his primary residence is on the exclusive Indian Creek Island near Miami, Florida.
