Opinion Poll: Judicial Salaries

A school teacher's annual salary is about $70,000 as is that of a police officer. Federal judges make $271,000 annually, at least (FYI: courtrooms open at 10 am and close at 4 or 4:30 pm and are also shut down at lunch for 90 minutes). What do you think about judge's salaries?

Lawyers Judging Lawyers

There are some miserable, dud lawyers out there (luckily few in number). Some rack up everybody's legal bill by keeping the DEFCON level elevated. Others just plain leave you scratching your head. From your experience or that of others, can the law society be trusted to really investigate one of their own when seized with a complaint?

The Great Neutral Citation Debate.

A great debate rages between courts, law librarians and private law report publishers to replace arbitrary and commercial legal citations (eg. D.L.R., E.R or F. Supp.) with neutral citations which are Court-specific: to each judgment is assigned a simple, unique and logical legal citation based on the date of publication of judgments in each year [for example, 2006 WI 86 instead of 717 N.W.2d (WI, 2006)]. Do you favor an change to neutral citations or shall we stay with the status quo of general

Weekly Law Poll & Survey: The Burqa Question

FEB 2, 2010: The original theory behind the Muslim religion’s full-head covering for women-only (the BIRQA and the NIQAB), is to shield the facial features of a pubescent female from the lust of men (other than the husband). Turkey, Tunisia and the Netherlands have banned the Burqa and Niqab. Others say it is a matter of freedom. Should there be a ban on the wearing of the Niqab or Burqa in free and democratic societies such as Canada and the USA?
