An aggressive political and militaristic form of government including the use of international deceit and expansionism, the arbitrary suspension of the rule of law, and arbitrary eugenics or genocide.

Related Terms: Fascism

Most authors associate Nazism with (national) socialism and the availability of a strong leader, and in this, the reference is to Adolph Hitler in Germany from 1934 to 1945.

The other core concepts of Nazism are:

  • Expansionism;
  • The rejection if not outright derision of democracy and communism; The sharing of some features with Facism;
  • Anti-Semitism
  • The nationalization of industry;
  • A state policy of eugenics, racism and even genocide;
  • Extensive use of the death penalty.

flag of German NazismA 1920 policy document of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (aka NSDAP) reveals more details of Nazism (extract only), very much a police state:

  • Only a member of the race can be a citizen. A member of the race can only be one who is of German blood, without consideration of creed. Consequently no Jew can be a member of the race....
  • We demand the nationalization of all (previous) associated industries (trusts)....
  • In order to enable the provision of a German press, we demand, that ... all writers and employees of the newspapers appearing in the German language be members of the race....
  • For the execution of all of this we demand the formation of a strong central power in the Reich. Unlimited authority of the central parliament over the whole Reich and its organizations in general.

In the history of the world, there has only ever been one "successful" Nazi government and that was the murderous government of Adolf Hitler. But even in that and the above-statements, the word government is used with some reservations as a government is not generally used to define a lawless, tyrannical person or her or his henchmen or group that hold control over a territory by use of the military, secret service and in all important regards, a rule of terror.
