Being married.

Has the same meaning as marriage or matrimony.

Used mostly as part of the legal expression for illegitimate children as born out of wedlock.

Of wedlock, the English poet Sir John Davies (1569-1626) wrote:

Wedlock, indeed, hath oft compared been
To public feasts, where meet a public rout.
Where they that are without would fain go in,
And they that are within would fain go out.
